What are Simplex, Half Duplex and Full Duplex Communication?
1)Simplex Communication-
- Communication is always Unidirectional.
- One device can transmits and other device will receive.
- Example:-Keyboard, Traditional Monitors
Simplex communication is a one-way communication mode in which data flows in only one direction. In simplex communication, data is transmitted from a sender to a receiver without the possibility of the receiver sending data back to the sender. It is like a one-way street where traffic can only flow in one direction.
Examples of simplex communication include radio and television broadcasting, where the sender transmits information to the receivers, but the receivers cannot respond directly to the sender. Another example is a keyboard or mouse connected to a computer, where the computer can receive input from the keyboard or mouse, but the keyboard or mouse cannot receive information back from the computer.
Simplex communication is often used in situations where there is no need for feedback or where feedback is not possible or practical. However, it is not suitable for situations where two-way communication is necessary, such as in a phone call or a chat session.02) Half-Duplex Communication-
- Communication is in both directions but not the same time.
- One device sending, the other device can only receive, and vice versa.
- Example:- Walkie-Talkie
Half duplex communication is a two-way communication mode in which data can flow in both directions, but not at the same time. In half duplex communication, a device can both send and receive data, but only one device can transmit data at a time, while the other device listens for the data. When one device transmits data, the other device acts as a receiver, and when the other device transmits data, the first device acts as a receiver.
This mode of communication is similar to a walkie-talkie, where two people can talk and listen, but only one person can talk at a time. The person holding the walkie-talkie must press a button to speak and then release it to listen to the other person.
Half duplex communication is often used in situations where two-way communication is necessary, but the amount of data being transmitted is relatively low, and the time delay between the two transmissions is not critical. Examples of half duplex communication include push-to-talk radio systems and some computer networks, such as Ethernet.
03) Full Duplex Communication
- Communication is in both direction simultaneously
- Device can send and receive dat at the same time.
- Example:- Telephone line
